 Being an over-the-hill, 15 years past her prime "artist", we've come to expect certain requirements from the "Material Girl", in the desperate attempt to keep her career afloat and fresh. Bringing in young guns like Justin Timberlake, in the hopes of appealing to a more "urban" audience. Pillaging the BDSM community for "costume" ideas. And of course, when all else fails, there's always the original idea of taking your clothes off (Except in her case, I'd be more inclined to pay her to keep them on.).

 

 So for a woman who essentially would  have no career, if it wasn't for sex and political controversy, is there any surprise when she sank to the low of comparing disabled war veteran and Presidential candidate John McCain to "Adolph Hitler"?

 I mean, BIG DEAL! WHO CARES if he served in Vietnam? WHO CARES if he was shot down over hostile territory, wounded, and taken as a prisoner of war? WHO CARES if he was held and tortured daily in P.O.W. camp for 6 YEARS, because he refused to give up vital, U.S. military secrets to enemy combatants? WHO CARES if he's worked in the U.S. senate since his release. Despite his permanent, physical disabilities? WHO cares that  despite being well into the age of retirement, he STILL wants to serve his country?

There's just a sample of the lovely expletives recently launched in my direction, for simply refusing to hand over money to several of these glorified "dole agents". One of the worst in Toronto being a man named "Devon", who hangs out near the intersection of Queen and Bathurst Streets, and permanently camps out next to "The Oak Leaf Steams Baths" . A schizophrenic crack head and alcoholic, he's been prone to serious violent rages as of late. Last week going so far as to follow me into the middle of an intersection to scream obscenities at me, for not giving him money A SECOND TIME in as many hours.

 

 The scary part, kids? When (Notice I used the term "when". Not "if". Because with individuals of this nature, it's often just a matter of time.) he eventually does go off the deep end, and hurts or kill someone (as was the case in last year's murder, at Queen and Niagara Streets), he'll actually be treated to a BETTER standard of living, then he's usually accustomed to. As then he's be whisked away to a hospital, given a warm bed and three square meals, and temporarily drugged up with the only the finest anti psychotics the Province can purchase with YOUR tax dollars. At least long enough for a doctor to sign a paper citing he's "medicated, and safe to return to society". Free to roam the streets, and trade his bottle of neuroleptics for a crack pipe.

 I have no idea if it's the fresh moutain air, something in the water, a very qualified coaching staff, or a combination of all three. But there's something about that province where they are able to take athletes, often with little to no experince in that specific field, and within a span of a few short years, turn them into absolute wrestling machines. Daniel Igali is a prime example. With much of his previous experience attained, by wrestling his brothers in the dirt soil of his native Nigeria. By his own admission, his career didn't really begin to ascend until he started training in British Columbia. Now, he's not only a gold medal winner, he's also regarded as a world class coach. Given the right amount time, I assure you newly-crowned winner Carol Huynh will achieve that status.

 

 Irregardless of all the other events, when it comes to wrestling, other countries sit up and take note.

 As if capitalizing on the death and dismemberment of Tim McLean wasn't bad enough, PETA wants to plaster this ad all over his hometown. The feelings of his family and friends be damned.

 

 This only further proves my point about militant animal rights activists. They become SO entrenched in their war on all things "carnivorous", they cease to function on even the most elementary levels of human social consciousness. They become social neophytes, and psychologically inept. Unable, and unwilling, to emotionally relate to their fellow human beings. The irony is not lost on me. In that, both mankind and the animal kingdom, have the ability to feel both physical and emotional pain. Yet, to be a card-carrying member of such a militant animal rights fraternity like PETA, you essentially have to forgo all concern and welfare for your fellow man. Sacrificing one for the other. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND. Doesn't it stink of hypocrisy?

 

 Something for you to think about, while reading their latest advertisement.

 Does anyone know whatever happened to the notion of occupational "professonalism"? Anyone? Anyone at all have a clue? Apparently, those at "Bill & Son Towing" have NO idea at all. And as a result, quite possibly my only cherished posession on the entire planet, my motorcycle, paid a hefty price for their imcompetence.

If what could possible be the worst scenairo every experieced by a motorcyclist, my front tire blew out while on the highway yesterday. Whether it was rider skill, luck, "devine intervention", or a combination of all three, I managed to keep the bike upright, and bring it to a safe and complete stop on the side of the road. Thus avoiding just being another slice of "road pizza" on the expressway.

 

 Crisis averted, right?

 

 Wrong.

 

 "Bill & Son Towing", are contracted out by the Toronto Police Services. Which means if your vehicle has an accident, or breaks down and strands you for whatever reason, they're the ones that get the call from the police. So one would assume, since the notion of road "SAFETY", is obviously paramount to the Toronto Police, especially their Traffic Division, it would ALSO be put into practice by their contracted employees.

 

 Well apparently, IT'S NOT.

 

 The "Bill & Son Towing" employee who hitched up my motorcycle, failed to inform me that he'd ever worked on a sport bike before. Barely off the highway, the bike came crashing down onto the flatbed truck, and damn near fell off the side into oncoming traffic. It was only after we came to a complete stop, that the employee freely admitted several times, that he "Didn't know what he was doing." when it came to transporting my motorcycle. Which, from a legal standpoint, should have precluded him from even touching the bike in the first place. At this point, I made him call his superior to come render assistance. Who confirmed that he had improperly hitched up my bike. Using the wrong restraints, and employing the wrong cross-pattern of usage. Unfortunately for myself, "Bill & Son Towing" aren't exactly leaping to take responsibility for their actions.

 

 While I applaud The Ontario Ministry of Labour for their legislation protecting the safety and health of Ontario workers, I think there needs to be a greater emphisis placed on the rights of those who've been a victim of improper or inadequate employee training in Ontario. Depending on the damage done, I may be out of my main form of reliable (and cheap) transporation. Having said that, if that 500-pound motorcycle had bounced off the truck and landed onto the windshield of a car, someone may have been out of a FAMILY MEMBER. Or MEMBERS. Just based on Ontario workplace law, the employee of "Bill & Son Towing" could have taken one look at my bike, thrown up his hands and proclaimed, "I'm not hooking up this motorcycle, for reasons of safety.", and his employer couldn't have said one thing in dispute. Sure. They might have been put off, at having to send out another truck. But that's about the extent of all they could whine about. But because he took it upon himself to try and do a job he knew he wasn't trained in, I am now literally "up the creek".

 

 "Professionalism". It's not just a word, people.
